A kind apostle whose name people whisper when things feel impossible.
Jude was kind. He had strong hands, a gentle voice, and a steady heart. Some called him Thaddeus, which means “heart” or “gentle.” He was one of Jesus’ twelve apostles — though we don’t hear his name often in the Gospels. But Jude was there. Listening. Learning. Loving.
One time at supper, Jude asked Jesus a soft and honest question: “Lord, why will You show Yourself to us — but not to the whole world?” And Jesus answered with love: “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word. And My Father will love him, and We will come and make our home with him.” Jude smiled. Because he understood: when we love Jesus, He makes His home in our hearts.
After Jesus rose and returned to Heaven, Jude went out into the world. He travelled far — some say to Mesopotamia, others say Persia. He preached with boldness, but always with love. He brought light to places full of fear.
Later in life, people began to pray to Saint Jude when they were truly hurting. When no one else could help. When things seemed impossible. And strange, beautiful things began to happen. Prayers were answered. Hearts were lifted. People felt hope again. That’s why Saint Jude is now called the patron saint of hopeless causes — not because he was hopeless, but because he reminds us: God never gives up.
Saint Jude even wrote a short letter in the Bible. He encouraged believers: “Keep yourselves in God’s love, and be merciful to those who doubt.”
Thought for the heart. When everything feels lost — God is still working. Pray. Trust. Keep going.
A child’s prayer. Dear Saint Jude, thank you for helping people when they feel alone. Pray for me when things are hard. Help me to keep trusting Jesus, even when I feel small or scared. Remind me that nothing is too big for God. Amen.
