A faithful woman whose heart Jesus healed — and the first to see Him risen from the dead.
Mary Magdalene loved Jesus with her whole heart. But her story didn’t start that way. At first, Mary’s life was full of sadness. Her heart was heavy. She felt lost and unwell inside.
Then one day, Jesus saw her. Not just her outside, but her heart. He gently healed her. He set her free. From that day on, Mary followed Him. She wasn’t one of the twelve apostles, but she walked the same roads. She listened to the same parables. She saw the same miracles. Mary helped support Jesus and His friends. She served with kindness. She stayed near with love.
When others ran away, Mary stayed. She stood at the foot of the Cross, watching Jesus suffer, tears falling, hands trembling — but her heart stayed faithful. And then, early on Sunday morning, while it was still dark, Mary went to visit Jesus’ tomb. She brought spices and sorrow. But the stone was rolled away. And the tomb was empty.
Mary began to cry. Then a voice asked: “Why are you crying?” She thought it was the gardener. “Sir, if you’ve taken Him, tell me where…” And then the voice said her name: “Mary.” And suddenly — her heart lit up. Because she knew that voice. It was Jesus. He was alive.
Jesus smiled at her with love and said: “Go, and tell My brothers.” And just like that — Mary became the first person to see the risen Jesus. She ran to the disciples. “I have seen the Lord!” she cried. That’s why the Church calls her the Apostle to the Apostles.
Thought for the heart. Jesus knows your name. And when He calls it, your heart will shine.
A child’s prayer. Dear Saint Mary Magdalene, thank you for loving Jesus so deeply. Help me to stay near Him — when I’m happy and when I’m sad. Teach me to listen for His voice and to share His love with others. Amen.
